Team Secret Dominate Nigma To Win Beyond Epic ‘Dota 2’ Tournament

Team Secret defeated Team Nigma 3-0 in the grand final of the Beyond Epic Dota 2 tournament, securing another tournament win in dominant fashion. 

Team Secret has been on a bit of a roll this season, being classed as one of the top teams in the world, and winning multiple tournaments including the final Major before lockdown, DreamLeague Season 13. 

With the Dota Pro Circuit suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic many smaller online tournaments have popped up, and with The International postponed until 2021 the top teams have little reason to turn down invitations. 

This is how Beyond Epic, a tournament organized by Russian tournament organizer Epic Esports Events, who were due to hold the penultimate Major of the 2019/2020 DPC season, and American tournament organizer Beyond the Summit came to be. It featured a $200,000 prize pool and many of the top teams from Europe and CIS. 

After almost two weeks of competition, the Beyond Epic tournament came down to a grand final between Team Secret and Nigma, two of the top teams in the world who have battled many times recently. 

In the final Team Secret looked impressive as things got underway. Despite giving Nigma the IO, which is traditionally one of their strongest heroes, Secret managed to take the win in game one in 48 minutes. Not a quick game by any stretch of the imagination, and Nigma did have a significant gold lead for most of the game, but it was clear that Secret’s late-game power would always give them an advantage should it go late. 

Game two turned out to be an instant classic, and a game you should certainly try and watch should you have the chance. It went a mammoth 75 minutes, with the rarely seen tier five neutral items having a significant impact. The game went back and forth multiple times, and as things entered they hyper late game it looked as though Nigma had the big advantage. However, one questionable fight from them, which Secret executed perfectly, ended the game, and put Secret on match point. 

Game three was another interesting game to watch, with Nigma starting out with a solid early game despite having to lane swap. But as the mid-game hit Secret found their groove and as they found good fights Nigma started to get a bit too aggressive for their own good. 

Quickly the lead was too large for even Nigma to come back from, and Secret continued to play near perfectly for the rest of the game, taking the third win in the series and a convincing 3-0 win overall. 

The win sees Team Secret take home $80,000, and further cements them as one of, if not the, best Dota 2 teams in the world right now.
